What Can a Poem Teach You About Positive Parenting and Saying Yes To Kids?

Are you a parent finding it difficult to stay positive with your kids?

As a mom of quadruplet girls, that’s what I strive for.  Even though it’s not always easy, it’s always worth it!

I’ve found encouragement in the form of a poem. It inspires me to do positive parenting as often as I find the opportunity.

positive parenting

This poem reminds me of the differences between positive parenting and negative parenting.

Here is the poem and I hope it helps you too. . .

Which Parent Will I Be?

~Author Unknown~

“I got two A’s,” the small boy cried.
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very bluntly asked,
“Why didn’t you get three?”

“Mom, I’ve got the dishes done,”
The girl called from the door.
Her mother very calmly said,
“Did you sweep the floor?”

“I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy said,
“And put the mower away.”
His father asked him, with a shrug,
“Did you clean off the clay?”

The children in the house next door
seem happy and content.
The same thing happened over there,
And this is how it went:

“I got two A’s,”
the small boy cried,
His voice was filled with glee.
His father very proudly said,
“That’s great, I’m glad you belong to me.”

“Mom, I’ve got the dishes done,”
The girl called from the door.
Her mother smiled and softly said,
“Each day I love you more.”

“I’ve mowed the grass,” the tall boy said,
“And put the mower away.”
His father answered with much joy,
“You’ve made my day happy.”

Children deserve a little praise
For tasks they’re asked to do.
If they’re to lead a happy life,
So much depends on you.

What does this poem say to you?

Does it remind you to say “yes” and be a more positive parent — taking the time each day to . . .?

  • Enjoy your children . . .
  • Nurture them individually . . .
  • Love them while giving them positive parenting support.

Whether you’re a parent of multiples or one, this poem is a great way to remind yourself to be a positive parent.

What can you do with this poem?

How about printing it out and keeping it where you’ll see it often during the day?

You could post it at adult height on your refrigerator.

Or use it as a bookmark for a book you’re reading or maybe your journal.

Showing your children a positive lifestyle involves living it yourself.

Looking for a unique way to show your children a positive lifestyle?

Chief Robert TallTree and Terri Lynn TallTree have created a special program for inspiring yourself and others. It’s called The 21-Day  “I AM a Gift to the World!” Challenge.

It’s free, fun, and there are some great gifts.

While it’s designed for adults, you can easily adapt it to show your kids they’re special.  Or if they’re old enough, you can take the challenge with them.

Check it out now — you might inspire yourself . . .or someone you love!
